Another Creative Quiet Time: Geographic Prayer

Get a map (of your city, state, country or the world).  Pick three (3) places where you know people and three (3) places where you've never been.  Pray for the people there - that they would hear and respond to the gospel.  Pray for people who who would be willing to go and share the good news in these places.

Looking for another resource for this? Try Operation World - a "definitive prayer guide to nations, peoples and cities of the world.

Winning the Calorie War

For a long time, this battle with food has been an issue on so many fronts...  emotional, spiritual, physical.  After a bit of a melt-down last week, I realized that my very focus on all these other areas might be giving the battle more "air-time" than it deserves.

To that end, I decided to boil it down to the hard facts.  To lose weight, one must burn more calories than one consumes.  It's really simple math.  And that got me thinking about something else... my thought life.

Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." [emphasis mine]

And, Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick;  who can understand it?"

Sometimes, we tell our things other than the truth - our heart deceives us... but when we focus on what is TRUE - it is hard to deceive ourselves.  As someone once said, "The numbers don't lie".   This week - I am speaking truth to myself about numbers - and that truth has set me free!

For those who are interested - the resources I am using are from the Calorie King.

Another Creative Quiet Time: Blessings

Read Ephesians 1:3-14.

Make a list of all the ways the Lord has blessed you both spiritually and physically.  Gather photos, pictures, words, etc., and create a small scrapbook to remind you of the many blessings God has given you.  Here is one of my blessings - my sweet niece, Ella.
